Maria Krasilova at Miaphonia
At the international Miaphonia Voice Festival I participate as both an artist and facilitator: leading groups, creating live music for Playback Theatre and exploring collective vocal improvisation.
My festival work
- “Emotion into Song”, my original workshop first presented at Miaphonia;
- vocal-improvisation circles, developed from work with Roman Stolyar and in dialogue with Bobby McFerrin’s circlesong tradition;
- live musical accompaniment and Playback Theatre musicianship;
- spontaneous composition through breath, bodily impulse, voice and group response.
What the festival archive confirms
An official “What is the superpower of Miaphonia facilitators?” post presents Maria as a composer, pianist and improviser, naming vocal improvisation, musical accompaniment and “Emotion into Song”. It was published on the festival’s Instagram in 2023 and presented again in 2026.
An official video dated 4 December 2025 identifies “Miaphonia facilitators Maria Krasilova and Atina Cornelius” in a vocal-improvisation recording. The current festival website also preserves participant Olga Plekhanova’s thanks to Maria Krasilova and Faina Fro Fana for classes in singing and sounding.

Connection to my current work
Miaphonia became one of the laboratories for my work through body, sound and improvisation. It connects ten years in Playback Theatre with composition, voice and a pedagogy in which people learn to listen, respond and create together.
